Is the GPU still functioning when you first connect it?
I'm a new builder and tried my best to follow online guides, but unfortunately my biggest concern turned into reality... I’m unable to get my system to start. Right now it’s just sitting on top of my motherboard case to test components.
Here’s the list of parts I have:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT
Motherboard: ASRock B550M Pro4 Micro ATX AM4
RAM: T-Force Vulcan Z 3600 (2x16 GB)
Storage: WD black SN850X NVMe SSD 2TB
PSU: MSI MAG A750GL
If I remove the GPU and short the power headers, the error lights first appear on the CPU and DRAM but then stop, after which it powers up completely for "BOOT" and "VGA." The CPU cooler and PSU fans spin. When I insert the graphics card into the PCIe slot, connect the power cables, and short the power pins, nothing happens—no lights, no fans, just the sound of my PSU. What am I doing incorrectly? Could my card be dead?
More details about the setup:
All power cables are connected. The CPU power is linked to the CPU/PCIe connection on my PSU via the CPU cable. I have two 6+2 pin PCIe cables for the GPU; the RX 6700 XT uses one 8-pin and one 6-pin connector, so the second cable is connected in a chain with two 6+2 pin connections. Only six pins are plugged in, with the rest hanging loose. The other ends of these cables are securely attached to the power supply.
Thank you for your assistance.
Please ensure the rams are placed in slots A2 and B2. Identify which slot the SSD is filling on the motherboard.
