No, I wouldn't suggest choosing syndicate over black flag.

I consider Black Flag to be significantly more Assassin's Creed than Unity or Syndicate. It stands out as one of the most "AC" games due to its role in shaping the early race storyline and enriching both past and present narratives. Unity and Syndicate tend to concentrate on their own historical arcs, which aren't as well-integrated into the broader AC universe. Unity feels more like a compact tale with limited impact compared to Rogue's story. I haven't completed Syndicate yet.

Black Flag retains an assassin vibe while also embodying a pirate atmosphere. It balances both elements without diminishing either.

Edward develops a deeper grasp of assassins' principles as the game progresses, yet this doesn't diminish the game's status as an Assassin's Creed title.

I haven't tried other AC games, but Black Flag is a must. Those who enjoy instrumental pieces or classic tunes will love it even more.

Black Flag offers fewer stories, less content, and simpler characters compared to others. Its quests are less creative, with more repetitive missions that feel like copy-paste tasks. While it fits into the broader AC universe—covering modern times, history, and ancient races—it stands out as a stronger, more engaging experience. Plus, it comes before Unity and Syndicate, making it a logical starting point if you want to explore them in sequence.
