Is the FX 8350 inclined to exceed its maximum speed?
Is the FX 8350 inclined to exceed its maximum speed?
I've been attempting to overclock my 8350 for several days, but it doesn't seem to respond. I'm currently using a M5A97 R2.0 motherboard with the H60 cooler and haven't enabled overdrive. I'm only testing voltage levels to see what's possible and worried about increasing it further. My PSU is a 650-watt Corsair unit, and the stock voltage was 1.26. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
The M5A97 R2.0 features just a 4+2 VRM setup, which isn't ideal for heavy overclocking, particularly with an 8-core processor. Adding some active cooling directly on the VRM area—such as a small fan—might provide a bit more flexibility. If you manage to hit around 4.4ghz with stable performance, it would be considered satisfactory. Going beyond that is likely to bring diminishing returns.
Under strong cooling, a 1.5v+ core works well. I've tested it at 4.9GHz and 1.55v continuously for several years.
