Via my organization around 30 devices have reported this problem... we've got 3,500 ASUS routers in use and I'm a bit concerned.

I encountered a similar issue too. My Asus RT-AC66U B1 was failing to write the DNS leases file due to lack of space on the device. The kernel logged a fatal signal after the update, and I lost internet connectivity for about 5 to 15 minutes before a hard reset restored stability. After updating to firmware 3.0.0.4.386_51665-g8072e52, it has been working fine for over an hour.

Updating the ASUS RT-AC86U to firmware 3.0.0.4.386_51529-g70acb9d resolved the problem for me without needing a factory reset. Wishing everyone good luck!

Absolutely troubling, yet reassuring it might be an ASUS issue rather than a hardware problem. I’d normally prefer to file a support case and share logs, but I’m limited by internet access for my work. A device reset seemed the fastest temporary fix. Fingers crossed they collect enough similar cases to address it soon! Thanks for the forum support community.

The problem described would cause the router to shut down after 20 minutes of operation due to excessive CPU and memory consumption. A factory reset was successful without complications during the first two hours of use on the DSL-AC68U model 3.0.0.4.386_50117. This situation began on May 18, 2023.
