Hey everyone, curious if anyone has any ideas on how to resolve this issue. I own a Gigabyte Aorus 17x 4080 laptop.
My display settings seem to reset every time I restart the computer. For instance, under System > Display it lists two displays, but in Advanced graphics it keeps reverting back to Display 1: Internal (Intel's built-in). I'm trying to set it to "show only on 2", which is Display 2 for the 4080.
I have to switch it manually to Display 2, the 4080 model. I attempted to merge them, but after restarting, it always returns to the default Display 1 internal. I turned off Intel integrated graphics in Device Manager and then used "Microsoft basic display adapter" instead. I reinstalled the drivers and everything is working now.
I've checked the NVIDIA Control Panel and prioritized the 4080 GPU.
Is there anything wrong? Is this the expected behavior?
Thanks for your help.

53 point in Jarrod’s Tech review for details, plus the mux switch setting in BIOS.

Hi there, i wondered why after changing the BIOS to "Discrete" it still resets to "Dynamic" when restarted, and why the display settings only show Display 1 which is the Intel built-in one.

Navigate to Task Manager via the taskbar, select the 'performance' section. Observe the 'GPU' activity graphs (typically labeled "GPU 0" and "GPU 1"). Move the mouse or play a background video to identify which GPU is active. If the mux switch functions correctly, only the 4080 graph should display activity.

Yeah it seems to have activity in the 4080 when I launched a game under task manager. When I tab out there's some activity on the Integrated one.

I don't know specific details about your laptop, but generally speaking, when using the built-in screen, the iGPU is active as Optimus manages data flow. Connecting an external monitor through HDMI or DisplayPort might sometimes avoid the iGPU, though this isn't guaranteed.

Thank you for the updates! It looks like everything is functioning properly now. Regarding the issue with Display 2 not appearing in advanced graphics settings, could you clarify why it's missing? I noticed it was previously labeled as Display1 and 2, with Display2 being the 4080.
