While playing CSGO and other titles I've observed some extreme throttling on my 6700k, dropping from 4.0 GHz to 0.8GHz (which causes significant frame drops). I found online that this occurs when the CPU isn't under heavy load and Windows lowers its clock speed to save power. This is usually fixed by switching to a high-performance power plan. Yet it persists. Another thought is the VRM might be overheating, though I read they can reach up to 125°C without throttling, which seems unlikely given my setup. Could it be the power supply unit? I own a Corsair SF600, which I assume should handle a 6700k and 1080 at least. However, I have no idea what might be causing this issue. This hasn't occurred in about three years, only when using a hard drive instead of an SSD since my Windows installation got corrupted during backups.
