Is the computer stuck at the POST stage after upgrading the CPU?
I was improving my friend's PC, which was a 2700X on an Asus TUF B450 Plus gaming setup. I updated its BIOS and then installed an NVMe SSD along with a 5600 CPU. The setup process went smoothly until it only displayed the GPU brand and name before going black. After several attempts, a splash screen appeared after about five minutes, followed by a new processor detection but I couldn't proceed further. It's been around 15 minutes now. I tried re-seating the memory, but removing the NVMe SSD didn't help anything. What might be causing this issue? Anyone have similar experiences?
When sharing a troubleshooting thread, it's important to provide detailed system specifications. List them clearly as follows:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
Include the age of the PSU along with its make and model. Also, mention the BIOS version for your motherboard at this time.
Having a before and after comparison of your friend's specs would be very helpful.
After flashing the BIOS, I encountered a BSOD after the load window, with storage issues. I adjusted the BIOS to RAID and Windows still loaded. I wanted to emphasize that the machine functioned properly until I changed the CPUs. I downloaded the new BIOS update for that specific computer.
I didn’t clear the CMOS after flashing the BIOS. I was contemplating doing so.
CPU: 2700X, changed to 5600
Cooler: stock, Wraith Prism
Motherboard: Asus B450 TUF Plus Gaming
RAM: 2x8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws v3200MHz
Storage: 1TB HDD, 500GB SATA SSD from SanDisk. I also added and later removed a functional 1TB ReStore SSD NVMe that I used previously. Eventually, I removed it to rule out any issues.
GPU: GTX 1060 6GB
Power Supply: Unsure, but I’ll ask someone for clarification. I purchased it new about five years ago.
Case: Uncertain, but possibly Cougar.
OS: Windows 10
Monitor: 27-inch Dell monitor, Full HD.
I’ll attempt the CMOS clear process!
Yes, I attempted to remove the CMOS battery, waited five minutes, then reinstalled it. The issue persisted. Actually, I was able to press a button to detect a new CPU and it functioned properly. It restarted afterward. Still, it takes a long time for the motherboard splash screen to appear, but now it just restarts after about two minutes on the splash screen.
