I’ve just installed all components on my MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk motherboard (CPU, cooler, RAM, SSD). I forgot to update the BIOS beforehand. Is it safe to update the BIOS while everything is already installed? Or should I remove everything first?

You can upgrade the BIOS once everything is set up. Most boards need a CPU to perform this update, but some models support BIOS flashback, allowing updates even without a CPU. Updating is definitely possible with all components installed.

Eigenvector mentioned this earlier, but are you really considering the present CPU isn’t suitable without the BIOS upgrade? Usually you require an older, compatible processor to apply the update before a newer one functions, right?

It includes a bios flash function, making it work after an update.

However, the update might need a compatible processor at the moment.

The B550 Tomahawk allows BIOS flashback, eliminating the need for a CPU. The board also includes Ryzen 5xxx chips by default, so no updates are necessary unless your RAM type isn’t compatible (as happened with my setup).
