Is the Acer Aspire 7 A715-51G-52MV experiencing CPU throttling or overheating issues?
Hi, I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 7 A715-51G-52MV less than a month ago. I’m experiencing unstable CPU performance and extreme temperature spikes—starting at around 40°C and rising to as high as 70°C even when idle. I suspect the issue might be related to the CPU or power management features. I tried replacing it, but the problem persists. The only solution that helped was disabling Turbo Boost with throttleStop. Now I can’t use the fan at full speed because it reaches 70°C every minute. Each core operates at a different speed, causing temperatures to spike when they reach maximum. This post was taken while I was typing, and the background apps were Microsoft Teams and Edge.
Up until now I haven’t found any unusual features in laptops with strong processors. When tasks arise they rely on the full CPU speed to finish quickly. As the CPU increases, it generates heat that needs to be removed outside the case, which causes fans to work harder. The temperatures stay within normal ranges. Perhaps the cooling design in this model isn’t optimal, but what could be better? This is mainly due to space constraints for large cooling components like radiators and fans. I experienced similar issues with my DELL laptop, where fans were always audible. Now I use a desktop PC with silent water cooling during the day and only my laptop when traveling. ThrottleStop helps prevent sudden speed changes. You can also use built-in Windows tools to cap CPU usage. Adjust your power plan so that "Maximum processor state" stays below 100%. On laptops, limiting the processor on battery could extend runtime even more. A setting around 99% should stop turbo boost entirely. However, this may slow down performance.
It seems strange because the processor reaches its highest speed without any activity. When I just sit still and observe the screen, the CPU speeds up to maximum turbo boost even though the system isn't doing anything. This leads to unusual temperatures and throttling effects.
