Is something wrong with my PC?
You have a Ryzen 7 1700x and a 1660 with 16 GB DDR4 2400 RAM, but your performance varies significantly across games. In CS:GO on low settings you see 100–150 fps, Fortnite at low is 90–150 fps, and Overwatch rarely hits 144 fps. Could something be wrong with your system?
It's typical for the first generation Ryzen models with lower memory speeds.
The Ryzen 1700X isn't ideal for DDR4 memory due to its outdated design, which is typical for a first-generation Ryzen processor.
He isn't, it's clear he's playing fewer GPU-heavy games at reduced settings.
Ideal options could include moving to an SSD or a M.2 NVMe slot. Personally, I’ve got the Ryzen 2700X and I’m performing well in FPS across Dust II, Mirage, and Overpass, often exceeding 200+ FPS consistently. Your PC setup is also a solid mix of CPU and GPU, but I’d suggest aiming for a fully Ryzen configuration. You might consider swapping your GPU for an Radeon RX 580, which is great for modern 1080p gaming.
Wrong. The 1660 he has is better than the RX 580. No point in changing that out. I own 3 different RX 480 and 580 GPUs. He's fine with the 1660. There is no point to what you said about an all Ryzen system.
Hmm... looks like everything is low right now, I think setting it to High Ultra would help him enjoy the game more.
100 - 150 fps in CS GO is actually quite low...
The GTX 1660 offers greater performance compared to the RX580...
It's hard to tell exactly what went wrong, but the 1060 still holds its own against the RX 580 and isn't a good reason to upgrade. You do have quick memory, right?
