Hey there! I just had a few spikes in my internet signal recently. I've already fixed my router settings to the best they can be. My speed test shows about 11.2 megabits per second, but it feels stuck and won't go higher. My ping numbers are also high too. What do you think? I'm using an ADSL modem for this setup.
You can go to the MyBroadband Forum at https://mybroadband.co.za/forum to see how far you are from your provider who gives you ADSL. If you live too far away from your neighborhood provider, you will get bad ping and slow speeds. Yeah, that's the word DSLAM. It's like a big white box in your area. If you are too far from the DSLAM, what do you get? That is why 5G and LTE have become famous because if your signal strength RSRP is between -75 to -80 dBm, RSRQ is at least -10 dBm or better, RSSI is between -55 to -51 dBm, and SINR is between +10 to 25 dBm, you can get over 10 MB/Second depending on whether your cell tower is busy or not. Here in South Africa, Vodacom's Mobile 4G Network offers about 150 Megabits (which is 18.75 MB/Second) when people share the bandwidth. LTE-Advanced or 4G+ gives you even more speed at 37.5 Megabits if there are a lot of people sharing the cell tower bandwidth. RAIN offers up to 75 Megabits (which is 75 MB/Second) because multiple users can use the same cell tower at once. The best thing to do is buy a HUAWEI B818 from 4GLTEMall.com or from Ali Express and put in some sim cards loaded with 1 GB of Mobile Data, then plug each one into your Huawei B818 and go 100 meters away from the nearest cell tower. Slow internet and sudden speed changes can happen because of many reasons. Too many people using the same connection makes it slow down. Other devices or walls blocking your signal make Wi-Fi weak, causing slowness or spikes. Old gear like old routers or modems can't keep up with modern speeds. Bad viruses or malware on your phone use up network resources. Programs running in the background also drain resources. If you want to fix these problems, try restarting your router or modem to clear issues. Move your Wi-Fi router away from electronics and walls to see if that helps. Make sure your modem and router are updated for modern speeds. Run an antivirus scan on your device to find any bad programs. Close apps that aren't needed so they don't use up resources.
