Hello, it's a good question about purchasing used RAM. Buying second-hand can be safe if you check the seller's reputation and the item's condition. Your friend's offer sounds promising, but always verify beforehand.

Ram doesn't seem to cause any issues (provided voltages make sense). Therefore, it's likely fine if it appears to be functioning properly.

RAM plays a key role in a PC's performance and tends to last a long time when functioning properly.

Second-hand purchases come with inherent risks, yet RAM stands out as one of the more secure options since it generally lasts longer. I’d look into the actual savings before deciding. Used RAM is usually priced similarly to new, so unless there’s a significant cost difference, opting for new might be better for warranty reasons.

If you request the seller to test the memory with tools like Memtest86 and finds no issues, purchasing is secure. Unless they repeatedly apply excessive voltage, wear concerns are minimal. This is why most memory packages include a lifetime warranty.

Think I've killed more memory overclocking, than motherboards on LN2 and Dice. You take a gamble no matter what you purchase. Even if it's new. Plenty of hardware shows up DOA. It happens.

RAM is quite tough, but it works well as long as it hasn’t been used for intense mining. Buying it used is okay unless you’re looking for top quality. New RAM is often a poor value for the price.

They state the warranty applies only to the initial buyer, but there could be exceptions. If it’s a friend or acquaintance, they might handle the return if the product doesn’t work. If it wasn’t registered and you can give proof of purchase, you could register it yourself. My RAM is mostly brand new, though some is used; I’d say the issue would be resolved if it ever stopped working, as if it had an eternal warranty. It’s not ethical to insist on “first purchaser only” or ask for a receipt. A permanent warranty should cover as long as the RAM remains usable. Still, there’s a chance the hardware will outlast the system it’s in.

They usually ignore 2 volts for B-Die ICs. If it can handle over 1.5 volts and the seller is truthful, it should be fine to purchase.
