Is PC gaming REALLY worth it?
Is PC gaming REALLY worth it?
Last year I purchased my initial PC for around $500—a budget build using the G4560 processor and a 1050 2GB RAM. During that time I struggled choosing between buying components or opting for a PS4 Pro for just $100 less. A year later, I realized my choice wasn’t ideal; modern games don’t run smoothly as I had hoped. What do you think about PC gaming in a budget? Even at this price point, is it still worthwhile? P.S. I’m unable to afford an upgrade because I’m still in college and money is tight.
Perfect performance on medium settings at 1080p with 60fps is expected. Consider upgrading to a used 980Ti for higher performance.
It’s important to realize that not every PC is the same. The more investment you make in a PC, the greater the value you receive from it. When you spend $500, you’re generally getting around that amount back. The key advantage of a PC compared to a console is its upgradability. If you need to enhance your system later, you can do so. With a console, that option doesn’t exist. So, make the most of what you have—you might still own one of the top gaming PCs available!
Your current setup has limited potential. As mentioned, investing more will yield greater returns. Improve it when funds allow, and performance will follow naturally.
PC requires a larger upfront investment in hardware, yet you can reduce expenses later by taking advantage of Steam deals and avoiding online fees.
Currently enjoying Shadow of the Tomb Raider at medium difficulty, but struggling to maintain 40 FPS. Mostly play solo games, though I’m okay with online play. Looking forward to upgrading someday. Surprised by how demanding modern titles can be on my system within a year!
The minimum levels you can adjust are quite low, especially if you're aiming for 60 FPS. 2) This is your choice, and I'm happy to go along with it. 3) Everyone does it. Sure, games can be quite taxing! I just played through AC IV: Black Flag recently, and even on my Ryzen 7 1700 and GTX 1070 at the highest settings for 1080P, I was shocked by how often performance dropped to around 30 FPS. Enjoy your gaming!
