This subject is really tough to grasp. It's not just the initial reactions that are overwhelming—it's the constant disappointment too. "Wait until Ethereum or Zcash crash"? That sounds like a long shot. When they do, a new coin appears and everything resets. That’s the core of cryptocurrency. Mining one coin is so hard it becomes pointless; they just keep generating new ones. I think this is why crypto mining feels so frustrating. The only real solution seems to be when Bitcoin itself collapses.

I purchased my initial gaming computer in 1999, swapped in the TNT for a GeForce 2 ultra, and kept improving the graphics card each year afterward. If I had owned a graphics card at every reading I made... would PC gaming still be alive? On a forum I’d likely have seen many more cards over time.

PC gaming remains strong despite challenges like cryptocurrency mining. The cost of a high-end GPU isn't a major concern for most players within a few months; it becomes significant over longer periods. Many in the community mistakenly believe PC support is crucial for game longevity, or that lacking a dedicated GPU guarantees failure. In truth, console gamers dominate, and most PC users aren't really interested in gaming. We should stop pretending PC gaming will always be the next big thing, since it isn't and likely won't be.

Mining doesn't influence PC gaming. It mainly impacts individuals in the DIY scene seeking a powerful GPU. You can still obtain a top-tier gaming PC at a fair price if you purchase a ready-made unit.

With lootboxes, MOBA titles, aggressive microtransactions, pay-to-win mechanics, and the general gaming scene, bad business habits keep rising. I’ve started visiting the library more often to read about taxpayer issues instead of spending money on games. PC Gaming is definitely losing appeal for me now, so I’ve switched to reading books.

Regarding PC Gaming overall, it’s not a dead end. People still purchase games, especially with microtransactions driving demand. The GPU demand surge appears short-lived, and companies like Nvidia and AMD are boosting production. Relief won’t come until at least the third quarter of this year. Unless GPU prices triple within three years, PC gaming should remain stable.

It’s not ending anytime soon and isn’t far off, but it seems to be facing some serious mood issues because of the crazy GPU/ram costs on hardware. The launch of the Xbox One X has provided a solid alternative for many, even those who’ve taken a break from PC gaming. Game creators have also made several questionable choices with loot boxes and haven’t adequately dealt with cheaters still active in games like PUBG, CSGO, and GTA V.

I would like to think so, having used anti-freeze for months.

I doubt the hardware sector significantly influences PC gaming. That’s my estimate—just 0.02%. Most new systems aren’t built solely for gaming; many PC players upgrade existing setups or use older machines.
