Is overclocking a suitable choice for this setup?
is overclocking the cpu a suitable choice for this setup?
i understand my cpu is the limiting factor, but can i overclock it and would that be beneficial?
i don’t know the details of overclocking, so could you share a tutorial or guide?
pc:
mobo: asus p7p55d
ram: 10GB
psu: chieftec gp120-550AB A - 550W
cpu: intel core i7 860 - 2.8 GHz
gpu: gigabyte geforce gtx 1060 windforce oc 3g
hdd1: 2TB
hdd2: 1TB
cpu cooler: intel e41769-002
Not much, you're running a stock cooler. Likely you're missing the thermal headroom. A new CPU cooler might help.
Usually the opposite is true. What are your budget expectations?
A typical suggestion is a Ryzen 5 2600, B450 motherboard, and 16GB of DDR4 3000Mhz RAM. This setup would cost around $350 in the US.

If you prefer not to use AMD, here’s a comparable Intel configuration:

Both options would significantly outperform an i7-860 (four cores versus six).
If you’re interested in a CPU cooler for overclocking experiments:

These would suffice for moderate use.

And once you reach that level, AIO water cooling systems become the way to go.
