Is my RAM bad or no?
I'm currently working on a PC upgrade and have installed some new parts temporarily. I swapped my C: drive for a 1TB NVME card and replaced my 2400mhz RAM with two 3600mhz Trident Z RGB kits (2x8GB). Besides audio driver problems from the cloning process, I'm experiencing audio distortion when running the new RAM at full speed. Lowering it to 3200mhz resolves the issue. My motherboard is an ASUS Z170-A paired with an i5 6600k @4.5Ghz, and the upcoming upgrade will be an Asus TUF GAMING B550-PLUS with a Ryzen 5600x. I'm wondering if this RAM will function properly at 3600mhz on my new board, especially since my current Z170-A doesn't support that speed natively. I've already tried reinstalling drivers and adjusting sample rates. I purchased the RAM from Canada Computers and have about a week left before I need to return it, which puts me in a bit of a tight spot trying to figure out the real issue. Appreciate any advice you can offer.
I checked your board details and it lists a maximum of 64GB 3400MHz support. It seems running at 3600MHz might be causing problems, but according to the manual you saw, the B550 should work fine. Let me know if that helps!
Thanks for the help with the research. It really eases my mind. The main reason I'm cautious is the RAM didn't start working after a short time, and only one LED was lighting up at first. I suspect the RAM slots might be damaged, especially since I've experienced similar issues before. Take care!
