You're considering a PC upgrade due to performance issues in games. You want to maintain 144 fps at 1080p on a 144Hz display, possibly adjusting settings for better stability. Your current specs are listed in your profile, and you're weighing whether to upgrade now or later, and what components to focus on.

rise of the tomb raider, gta v, bf1, csgo, pubg, hitman, hitman 2, shadow of mordor are among the top titles I remember. I’m curious if my current setup can support newer games such as bf5, shadow of the tombraider, far cry 5 and the upcoming metro exodus. Additionally, I’d like to know how long it would take to play the latest games at least on high settings with 1080p at 120fps. Thanks in advance.

by future proofed i meant something that might last longer, but it should have been clearer. I understand that it's not really possible to fully 'Future proof' a computer.

I could wait until next year or the following year to evaluate whether the new RTX graphics cards would be significantly superior to the present ones and if they could handle ray tracing effectively. I’d also have more funds then Tongue. Thanks for your response.

I've heard some folks mentioning that DDR5 might be on the horizon, which makes people hope that DDR4 RAM, motherboards, and CPUs will become more affordable and readily available next year.

You've significantly improved the CPU, memory, and GPU for reliable performance, but the optimal time to make further upgrades will likely be in Q2 or Q3 next year.

Mobos and CPUs will become more affordable 1-2 years after the new generation arrives, mainly due to people delaying purchases of older models and vendors having no incentive to make large price cuts to empty stock. RAM prices seem unusual right now, possibly dropping or staying the same. Overall, you're at the end of your options with this setup. As mentioned before, future-proofing doesn't make sense. Instead, focus on timing your upgrade and considering how easy or cheap it will be when you decide. In your current setup, you could opt for an i7 and overclock it, which might extend its usability compared to an i5.
