Hello, I adjusted the overclock on my 980ti SC+ ACX 2.0 100 to the Core Clock, which raised it to 1429 during a GTA V session. I can confirm this using Precision X on the screen display. The memory speed remains above 3500mHz, and temperatures stayed around 60 degrees maximum while playing. I played for about an hour without any issues. Is this acceptable? I mean safe enough that I don’t have a way to verify the VRAM temperature. I want to avoid overheating, but I’ve seen my GPU running at 58-60°C at 1429 core clock with memory at 3500, and I increased power limits and temp max settings without any problems. Thank you.

I'm comfortable with those temperatures. Did you change the voltage? If not, it's likely fine. No OC means 100% cast iron gives a safe assurance. It's just a calculated chance, and extra voltage isn't a secure situation.

I would be happy with those temps. Have you adjusted voltage? if not then it is probably safe. No OC is 100% cast iron guarantee safe. It's just a calculated risk, and no additional voltage is a safe place to be.

According to what I've been taught, it's important to stress test the system and verify its stability for at least half a day, preferably longer. If the GPU operates stably afterward and adequate cooling is available, you should be okay. Keep in mind that exceeding these limits might slightly reduce performance. 60 degrees appears to be a safe temperature.

yea, i didn't raise the voltage. how much concern should i have about the ram getting too hot? would it be fine if i don't overclock the memory and the gpu stays between 60-70?

GPU 60-70 works well with a solid fan system or liquid cooling solution
Ensure it stays below that temperature threshold

I get that concern, but I'm curious about how the VRAM is heating up.

djreedj :
i understand that but im wondering about the vram getting hot..
They should be able to withstand temperatures of 70. Obviously depends on the manufacturer but having a high end graphics card like yours, the vram would be high end and be able to survive a lot of heat.
From the nvidia page it states the stock 980ti max temperature is 92, so your vram will be fine, just when you get up to 80-90 degrees the life of the vram etc could degrade

Whether VRAM stays within the GPU's actual temperature limits depends on the situation. Are you wondering if you're misunderstanding, or are you concerned enough? Your assumption seems reasonable.

So the vram can't go beyond the actual gpu temperature? Am I misunderstanding or being overly cautious?
What you're saying is as long as the gpu temperature stays normal, the vram should be fine.
According to Nvidia's statement (the gpu max temperature), it's probably the highest safe limit. You wouldn't want to reach that point. The vram could handle up to 92 but hotter and you'd have no idea what would happen—likely serious performance loss.
