Hi, I've observed that the clock display isn't showing the full time. It sometimes shows 18: and now it's just 18: instead of 18:58. On Windows Media Player, all the text has vanished, though the music remains. This issue appeared yesterday but has disappeared today again. Anyone have any suggestions? Should I consider getting another laptop? How much longer do I have before this one stops working? It's a Lenovo IdeaPad 100, around five years old. Thanks.

It seems there might be OS corruption. A simple reinstallation of Windows could help.
Use CrystalDisk Info to check if your drive is still functioning properly.
Keep an eye on temperatures using a tool like Hardware Monitor.
Also, ensure the CMOS battery is in good condition—it controls the system clock. A weak battery can cause timing problems and affect how the system operates.

What operating system are you using? It's possible to extract the SKU from your laptop via Lenovo's support page and check for any pending BIOS updates. Keep in mind, based on my search, you likely have a 5th generation Intel processor. This setup should suffice for everyday tasks like web browsing and typing, though it won't be focused on benchmarking at the moment.

Thanks for the updates. I've reviewed my video files and noticed that everything is present, but the identifying writing is missing too. It seems something might have occurred. I'll try your advice, which may take some time. I'm not very tech-savvy, so I'll let you know what happens. Thanks.

You've just installed CrystalDisk Info but can't open it. The icon appears in the toolbar at the bottom, yet clicking it shows a grayed-out square with no text visible. You're unsure how to proceed.

If you can transfer your files to the cloud or another external storage, you should do it. Do you have a different setup? It's the right moment to move the drive in and back up whatever you need to preserve.

If you purchase another laptop, will they be able to move your files from the current one? How much time do you expect before this laptop is finished? This issue began roughly two days ago. Thanks.

You might want to explore options for backing up your files online. This could involve using services like OneDrive, CarbonCopy, DropBox, etc., which usually need only a modest subscription or some basic account details.

What could have happened two days ago?
I could assume a broken Windows update.
Try using system restore to return to a stable state.
I’m not sure if the issue is with hardware.
If you care about your data, prepare an external backup now.

Thank you for your feedback. After a restart, everything appears normal again, but you're right to worry about a possible recurrence if the OS is damaged. Restoring to a week ago should help fix the issue. It hasn't been necessary for me before, but it might resolve the problem. Let me know if you need more details.
