Is my internet connection working properly with Starlink?
OK, I am stuck here. I was able to see all my computers on the network. They all have open sharing settings because I have a media server set up. So this is where the problem starts: Computer 1 (desktop hardline windows 10) can see Computer 2 (laptop hardline windows 11). Computer 3 (laptop wifi windows 10) is also visible from both of them. However, nothing works anymore after I switched to starlink. All computers are getting internet and have static IP/DNS addresses. They just don't want to see each other right now. So it makes me think that maybe one or both of those things started something. Either the Windows 10/11 settings got messed up randomly, OR Starlink is messing with the network somehow. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
You said one has Wi-Fi. It sounds like a router problem (either directly or indirectly). Do all computers connect to the same router? Then that router connects to Starlink? This matters a lot. You should describe how the wires are laid out (even if wireless) so you can tell which computer goes where, versus going straight to Starlink.
So it looks like you made me think of something that could be breaking things. I'm moving from Starlink to an Orbi router. Both hardline computers are plugged straight into the router. The Wi-Fi is connected wirelessly to the Orbi, but the router function is on Starlink. That means my usual 192.168.1.1 address turns into 10.0.0.1
Usually, when you have two routers, you end up with a lot of connected stuff. It looks like everything on your Starlink internet is actually talking to things that are just sitting around your house. Sometimes you can make it work by setting up port forwarding, but it's not ideal. You should probably stick to using only one router. The best way is to use the Internet Service Provider (ISP) router as the main one and then use another router just for a Wi-Fi antenna (AP). But there are many cheap mesh systems that pretend they own your network and won't let you make them act like an AP, especially if you have more than one Orbi box. I'm not sure what to recommend right now... better to get rid of the Orbis. You might be able to plug everything into the Orbi and use Starlink as a modem. I don't think you can actually set Starlink devices to bridge mode, but generally it doesn't hurt much unless you need to run a server on port forwarding.
You have to turn your Starlink router into bridge mode using the app. Starlink uses CGNAT, which is causing this problem. Your Orbi router is adding NAT over top of CGNAT. Instructions are here: https://blinqblinq.com/third-party-route...:~:text=To use a third-party,the router to the dish .
