Is my i7 6700k safe
Is my i7 6700k safe
Hello everyone, I just completed my testing with my Core i7 6700K.
Overclocked to 4.6ghz stable.
Corsair H100i GTX
Max temp 64°C
Idle 22-30
Core voltage 1.39 adaptive +0.250
Was it safe to use the CPU? I tried lowering the voltage and the system crashed, but it's stable now. Any advice?
It seems your OC is doing well, and Prime95 is performing adequately. Stress testing for extended periods is fine. Running Aida or ROG Real Bench a few times would be a good idea if everything is stable.
You tested the Prime95 for a minimum of 24 hours. If it succeeded, you're good to proceed. Otherwise, you can retest while playing demanding games to see how the CPU handles the load. Remember to monitor the temperatures during this time. Good luck!

others recommend avoiding prime95 since it isn't ideal for testing. I'm using handbrake x265 encoding instead. Sometimes during overclocking, prime95 doesn't trigger any errors for 30-40 minutes, but handbrake crashes after just a few minutes with a blue screen. I believe handbrake is more reliable than prime95 for testing your new O.C., though I'm not sure if it's stable. Let me know if that's wrong. Thanks.
Even if prime 95 isn't fully "up-to-date," it can still run for a few hours at 64C without crashing, and I don't think it will crash with regular use. Your OC is working well.
others are advising against using prime95 because it isn't reliable for testing. I'm currently using handbrake x265 encoding. Sometimes during overclocking, prime95 doesn't show any errors for 30-40 minutes, but handbrake crashes after just 1-2 minutes with a blue screen. I believe handbrake is more stable than prime95 for understanding your new O.C., though I'm not sure. Thanks.
