You stated two games in your post, does this happen on all titles after a gaming session? To answer the question in your thread's title, a GPU would end up with a scrambled display, artifacted display or a black screen. To add, if you open up GPU-Z you should see zero(0)'s in some fields if your GPU conked out.

This issue doesn't occur with every game I launch. Only certain titles seem to trigger it, and they tend to be more demanding in terms of graphics. Games like Dwarf Fortress, Elin, and Krita display this behavior. They rely more on the processor rather than the GPU. It's a good sign it likely isn't a failing GPU, though I haven't encountered it before. The previous time my GPU failed, the top of a window would flicker intensely, showing a strange pixelation pattern with white pixels before green flashes appeared in games such as POE2.
Do you have the most recent Nvidia driver? I would personally perform a driver cleanup and reinstall. These kinds of issues are frequently due to faulty graphics drivers.
I just completed a driver update, if it keeps happening I'll try it again. (Update: it did happen. Removed via device manager and reinstalled using express install through the NVidia app. Did not restart the computer. (If that helps.) Didn't fix the ghosting issue)
Update: after reinstalling the driver, I was asked to set up G-Sync. I disabled it and the problems disappeared. Thanks for your assistance!
