Is my frame rate suitable for my system? (low FPS in GTA 5)
I recently assembled a gaming PC equipped with an i7 9700k, RTX 2060 SC ultra 2x8g at 3200mhz RAM. However, I’m finding it difficult to achieve more than 105+ fps on any video settings in GTA V (the low setting matches the ultra performance). I suspect the issue lies with the game itself, as I can run high frames smoothly on other titles—R6 Siege (250+ fps), Fortnite (200-400+ fps on low), and COD MW 160+ fps with ray tracing. After a fresh Windows install and updated drivers, everything seems up to date. CPU temperatures range from 29c to 33c idle and 53c to 65c under load; GPU temps are 40c-50c idle and 63c-71c under load. XMP profile is enabled. I haven’t performed any overclocking yet. Would you have any advice on ways to boost frame rates so my 144hz monitor can display them fully?
He also has an RTX model GPU, but it seems the game wasn't originally designed for RTX support. Not every title performs well with RTX graphics.
You are currently using a resolution of around 149 FPS at 1080p with Very High settings. At 1440p this drops to about 110 FPS. Please note that performance will be significantly affected when MSAA is disabled, as it can greatly reduce frame rates. Adjusting settings beyond standard graphics options may also impact performance if they are set too high.
i'm using 1080p and it works only on gta, where the frames don't align. it's the same as with my previous system.
I believe the reason XMP is present is clear. I looked for performance issues in GTA V and found a video mentioning someone who said XMP improved GPU usage. Most seasoned PC players should already understand what XMP does and how to activate it.
My specific search was about whether GTA V struggles with RTX GPUs, which seems to be the case. It appears the game doesn't work well with RTX features unless they are explicitly supported. If a patch exists for RTX support, disabling those features might help.
Yeah, I wouldn't assume that would be the issue, but RT might. Even without a patch for RT support, trying different drivers could help. For example, I'm still using 456.71 because I played RDR2 when the driver after that was released, which performed much worse in that game. I usually check GPU driver reviews before installing them.
