Is Minecraft running slowly when I have a powerful computer?
Hi everyone. I've had this problem for years. I don't even know why I'm doing something wrong. My computer has an Intel Core i7-10700KF and a NVIDIA RTX 3070 with 16GB of RAM, but I still get really low frame rates. Yesterday, I installed the Minecraft launcher. Today, I launched the latest version and created a brand new survival world with no mods or extra stuff set up. With all the default settings, I got an average of 80 frames per second. I was confused. Then I tried changing some things to give less RAM—just 8GB instead of 16. How much did that get me? About 140 frames per second. I don't get it. All I want is to enjoy watching my screen at 240 hz. So, here are the questions: Is having such low fps in Minecraft normal with my computer specs? And if not, could you help me fix this issue? I am going to take screenshots of every game I play. Even though I know my computer setup, I will still use the lowest graphics settings just to make sure things run smoothly. If you have a game you want me to try out, just let me know. I noticed something in the Userbenchmark test that I don't understand yet. Is there a problem with those parts? Thanks so much! My motherboard is a Gigabyte Z490M, my graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 from Gigabyte, and I have 8GB of RAM. The software drivers are also set to the highest version. My storage has two big hard drives (SSDs) plus one larger drive on C:; the temperatures look fine at around 35 degrees Celsius for everything. Here is a list of my main parts:
- CPU: Intel Core i7-10700KF running at 3.8GHz with 8 cores and 16 threads
- RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V DDR4 memory with 2 sticks totaling 16GB
It looks like you're getting the frame rate I guess you should get when playing games that show it. Maybe try just reinstalling Minecraft. Also search around for what others average fps is in the game with similar hardware. Does this mean there is a problem? I don't see any included notes or flags regarding any of the components.

Does Minecraft run smoothly on my 970evo or is that a slow 120GB Kingston drive? I should also look at the heat coming from my CPU and tell you which motherboard I'm using.
Minecraft is fine to run on old computers like potato PCs, but it only works because of slow CPU power. The real problem comes from Java settings or other tweaks you made, not the hardware itself. Shouldn't there be a place online for this kind of stuff? Most people here say their game runs fast with 100 FPS instead of the 300+ they want, but these posts never get answered by anyone who actually plays the game.
