It's even more puzzling than I imagined. It's like wondering if I should replace my Ferrari because it's a year old.
Yea, a lot of people really aren't sure..... There was another thread I seen yesterday where a couple of Gentlemen are running the same chips you and I have with 4000mhz Memory frequency. Cas 15 the one dude had it running. Under 30ns latency too...... Yea, there's performance to be had, the trouble is the low speed sticks you have. Mine are rated 4266mhz (16GB) and do every bit of it. Although expensive, they clock like mad, pure performance. There's no AMD that can touch it. If you want I can fire it up and slap in some screen shots for you.
It’s less about judgment and more like evaluating whether to keep or swap parts. My system has been built up gradually, starting with a solid base and adding components one by one. It originally came with a 1070 Ti processor, a 550W Chinese PSU, 16GB RAM, a 250GB SSD, and a 1TB HDD. I’ve kept everything except the CPU and motherboard, so now it’s a completely different setup. Since I love tinkering, I’m curious about what upgrades would be best next.
The new generation isn't going to deliver anything meaningful at the current cost...I'm certain of it. If you're an FPS player craving maximum performance and that's what motivates you to wake up each day, then perhaps it's worth the investment. Are your FPS scores under 144 in most games? A 9900k could push them up by about 5% at best.
It seems my RAM struggles with overclocking despite Corsair's claims of ample headroom. At 3200 to 3333 MHz, it feels underwhelming compared to cheaper 3600 MHz options I've seen. Yet others say the Capellix RGB lights represent cutting-edge technology, justifying the higher price.
Usually the games run at 144+ frames per second. It can dip to around 130-140 sometimes, but that’s rare. As I mentioned before, the CPU and motherboard are the only components I haven’t swapped out from my prebuilt IBuyPower machine, so I’ll likely replace the budget MSI Z370-A Pro board instead of the CPU. I just enjoy planning what to upgrade or swap next, which helps me save money and look forward to future upgrades.
