I have linked three PCs together with RemotePC and it all works well. I work from my office in Portsmouth while connecting to another PC in Chichester. That second PC will act as the main file server, but today it turned off on its own, which is probably a power loss or just shutting down. I need all these machines running for at least three days straight. My PCs have SSD drives built in. Is it okay to keep them powered up all day long? If yes, how should I set them up? I'm using Windows 7, 10, and 11 on each one. All of them must stay on. Thanks again, Dan

Change your power settings so that it stays turned on and never puts itself to sleep.

It's good to reboot your computer once every week so things run smoothly again.

If your computer's power goes out, a UPS (battery backup) might save it. Windows likes to try updating things often, but you can tell it to skip those updates or run them at night when nobody is home. It doesn't matter if the PC keeps running as long as the heat stays safe.

Yeah, most of my stuff works like that. Sometimes you have to watch out for Windows updates or when computers turn off by themselves.

Thank you for the info. I'm watching out for any changes right now. I'm currently setting up things on three different computers that are in various places.

There are just some things I do at work that need a batch file to stop programs and restart the machine. I set up a task scheduler so it runs that file every Sunday. If the power goes out and there is a battery backup, the system shuts down safely. When power comes back on the battery, it starts the computer again. If you don't want a battery backup, there should be a setting in the BIOS to turn the computer back on if the PSU sees power coming back. Another option is that all our Dell computers have WOL enabled in the BIOS and our network switch can send out a WOL command to boot the computer.

My old box has been running non-stop for about two years every single day, basically without any breaks. It lasted over a decade and a half, which is nearly its full age before I ever needed to stop it with some repairs or fixes.
