Hi,
my PC has a Corsair CX650 PSU. I only have a motherboard, 32 GB RAM, and a 12100. I’m considering upgrading to a 3070 from the second-hand market—it seems it uses only 230W at full load. Why do they say it needs a 650W PSU? I think other parts don’t need that much power! Also, the Rx6800xt is much more powerful than this one, using around 250W (or 300W for 6900). The prices for those models match the 3070 (6900 is about $20 higher). A PSU recommendation would be 750 for the Rx6800xt. With a 65W CPU I currently have, will it cause any issues if I upgrade to a 6800xt or even a 6900?

Since a 3070 can reach up to 300w and not everyone, such as you, relies on a top-tier PSU, it's an issue. Yes, that's a concern. The 6800XT and 6900 models offer power spikes of up to 600w.

I own a premium Seasonic built, fractal Ion gold SFX PSU, and I wouldn't even use those cards with it.

now i get it. the max card for me is 3070 on the nvidia side if i don't want to switch my psu, right? not even with ti varient... i wish i had known before getting this psu! a 750 one was just 10$ more 😒
