Hello everyone!

I recently acquired a new Asus FX504GE laptop!

Here are its specifications:

* GeForce 1050 Ti graphics card
* Intel i7 - 8750H processor @ 2.20 GHz
* 8 GB of RAM
* HDD FireCuda ST1000LX015 - 1U7172, 1TB, 5400 or 5200 RPM (I'm unsure of the exact speed)
* Windows 10 x64

Unfortunately, I’ve encountered an issue. After installing Steam and beginning to download games as usual, a peculiar problem has arisen despite my efforts to find a resolution. When I initiate a download in Steam, the hard drive immediately reaches 100% utilization and remains there throughout the entire process, consistently hovering around 98% without progressing. This is unusual because my desktop computer, which is less powerful, can download at speeds up to 40 MB/s. However, this new laptop only manages approximately 20 MB/s, resulting in frequent interruptions and choppy downloads.

I’ve already attempted several troubleshooting steps, including disabling Superfetch and Windows Search, clearing the Steam download cache, changing the download region, and limiting bandwidth. Despite these actions, the problem persists. Increasing the bandwidth seems to exacerbate the issue, causing more frequent "stop" points or accelerating the process to reach those points before stopping. Normally, disk usage is around 40% while using Google Chrome.

This is frustrating because an 8 GB game takes approximately three hours to download when I could complete it in one hour or less. Even on a basic laptop not designed for gaming, downloads proceed smoothly.

Thank you!

Okay everyone, I believe I’ve resolved my issue; however, the disk usage remains at 100% during the download process. After the download completes, things return to normal. My fix: ensure all software and drivers are consistently updated, directly from their respective manufacturers' websites. Initially, I anticipated automatic updates due to my laptop purchase, but that proved inaccurate!

My fix: maintain all updates, including every driver from the manufacturer’s website! I mistakenly assumed everything would be automatically updated upon purchasing this laptop, which was incorrect.
