Hello,

I’m curious about installing games using a separate DVD drive. I've discovered it's feasible, however certain titles necessitate the disc being present during gameplay, which isn’t compatible with USB connections. Therefore, my inquiry is this: Is there a method to enjoy these games without the physical disc, avoiding potentially unreliable software? Specifically, I’m interested in playing GTA V online and am concerned that utilizing a workaround might be flagged as illegitimate due to security concerns. I also lack sufficient storage space to download the game, necessitating purchase of the physical version. However, I'm considering connecting the game to Steam and utilizing Steam as my primary launching platform.

Thank you for your assistance.

Using numerous open-source programs, you can generate an ISO image from any drive and then seamlessly integrate it within Windows, causing the system to recognize it as a physical disc. For many games, Steam allows you to activate a disk-based version using a key or code—eliminating the requirement for the original disc to be present during subsequent play sessions.

Awesome! That's exactly what I was looking for, but just didn't know that the games themselves have this option readily available. The Steam option that is.

It’s been a long time since I've encountered or utilized it, considering my workflow is entirely digital. However, it was definitely a component of their past offerings and I find it hard to believe this feature has vanished, especially with the increased frequency of downloadable content and the decline in DVD drive usage.
EDIT:
The disc is solely for installation purposes; it has no bearing on starting the game, as you require an active login to Rockstar’s launcher.
