Any method of controlling from a distance faces challenges.

Define "extremely" as very high.
I use TightVNC to connect to my HTPC.
Yes, there is a 0.5-0.75 sec lag. Noticeable, but only when I can see both displays at the same time. PC window and TV.
But for the stated use of running scripts, etc....you wouldn't even notice.

VNC remote control relies on graphics compression for data transmission across machines, which consumes significant network traffic. In contrast, Microsoft RDP uses graphics API calls that run locally, eliminating video or graphics transfer, resulting in a much smaller impact when both machines are connected to the same LAN.

Based on the available details, this might not be a significant concern.

The phrase "doesn't really like" refers to how those scripts and software interact with virtualization. It suggests a mismatch or resistance from the systems being used. Examples of such scripts and software could include automation tools, deployment pipelines, or monitoring systems. The computers involved are likely being managed through virtual environments, possibly for testing, development, or scaling purposes. Understanding the functional needs is important to clarify the exact context. The main goal seems to be enabling rapid remote switching between machines, though human factors may slow down the process. The underlying reason for this need probably stems from operational efficiency or resource management concerns.

If OP is merely executing scripts, then it doesn't really affect anything.
If OP aims to manage the entire desktop, then it becomes crucial.
It's possible OP only requires 50 users on a single machine with various scripts.

I'm just toggling between them, linking when necessary and unplugging when not needed.
