Is it possible to get lower than expected FPS and some lags while using my 3070 Ti?
I feel like I'm getting fewer frames per second than my computer should be doing while playing Rust. I swapped out my 1060 for a 3070, and my frame rate jumped from 40-60 to 60-80 fps sometimes. But after a few hours of online gaming, lag spikes start happening at times, eventually dropping down to one or less. My system monitors show the GPU and CPU consistently in the 40-50% load range, with only the power limit causing throttling on the GPU side. I used my 1060 for a long time without seeing any big drops in performance, so I don't know what's happening there. Am I setting the bar too high for this new 3070, or is there actually a problem? Update your post with the full list of hardware specs and OS info. Tell us if your power supply is old, how it looks (brand new? used? rebuilt?), and any history about using it a lot for games. For your hard drives: what brand and model they are, how much space they have, and how full they are right now. Check system performance by looking at the details in three different places. First check when you're not playing games, then while you ARE playing them. Use all three tools but only one at a time. Leave the window open on your screen or another monitor so it's easy to see. Process Explorer (Microsoft free version): https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sysint...s-explorer Your goal is to figure out what system resources are being used, how much (%), and which program is using them. Some things might start up automatically, while others could be started later by Task Scheduler.
if you need more details than what comes out of the benchmark, just ask me directly! lol. regarding the PSU, I bought the new 3070ti when it was brand new (NIB), and right now it's about seven months old. It probably has been idle for three-quarters of its life and gaming only one quarter of its time. Using Task Manager or other tools makes me think something is weird because the VRAM usually stays full even though there isn't much GPU work happening. RAM usage stays around 17 to 22GB mostly used by Rust and the computer itself, with other apps taking a tiny bit more space like Discord or Spotify in the 2-300MB range. CPU usage gets up to about 40% during most gaming sessions while temperatures stay steady between 65 and 72 degrees Celsius thanks to Ryzen Master. For startup programs I keep watching closely to make sure they are just normal system stuff unless I'm actually using them every time the computer turns on.
I noticed another thing today while playing this GPU. It won't use more than about 160 watts total. From what I've read, I should expect around 280 to 290 watts with a 3070ti. All the power settings that are known are set to high performance in the Windows and GeForce options.
Think of those high scores in gaming videos as being like the very best 1% at a party. They are not normal people; they are just rare. No one will post "meh" scores or boring FPS videos usually. Real reviewers tweak settings over and over again until they find something good enough to show off, then only then do they share their results. These folks often work with tech daily and know everything about the hardware inside out. Many of them even cheat by using fake settings like changing CPU priority or messing with other configs. Basically, don't stress too much trying to hit those published numbers from websites.
