Thinking about purchasing an HTC Vive now that prices have fallen.
I previously owned the Oculus Rift DK1, which had low-quality screens, so it wasn’t ideal.
Is it worth getting one for games like Skyrim? I really liked the idea but the £400 price tag is quite high.

I have a vive:
To be honest, it's still too costly for what it offers. Games remain somewhat average (except a few exceptions), and the technology isn't as polished as it could be. If you're eager for VR, opt for the more affordable Rift or PSVR.
However, if you can afford it, definitely get the vive.

I got mine for $800 when it was brand new—it was an amazing headset. I’m not sure how it stacks up against your current model. If you enjoy Beat Saber, you’ll always have something fun to play; the game never loses its appeal.

It's a genuine personal view. If you're really passionate about VR and play often, it might be worthwhile. I'm saving up to buy a vive, I used to play with friends regularly and I've missed it a lot, so I thought getting my own would be better. I don't have much experience with the Oculus either, as I haven't played with one much. I was conflicted between the two options but chose the vive because I don't want too many USB cables everywhere and want to use roomscale.

I never experienced it. Oculust Rift was essentially a test setup, and I used it for two months.

well..in your original post you've said you had the Rift DK1...
Anyways
I have the rift, had to buy a 3rd sensor for room scale, it's AWESOME...Vive is the same...
BUT, samsung odyssey + is A LOT nicer when it comes to screen quality and screen resolution and it won't cost more than a vive so i'd go with that (check reviews first to see if it's something you like) i believe the controllers aren't as nice as the oculus touch but better than the vive wands (which are aweful)
Also, Racing sims are amazing, with a racing wheel...project cars 2 is OUTSTANDING and worth buy a VR headstead and racing wheel just to play that...alone worth every penny.

Yes, but nothing functioned on it. It was early 2014 when I acquired it.

Yes, it's just £400, which makes me think about purchasing it. I'm not very familiar with it, and I don't have much experience setting it up either.

so then it really adds up, especially if you can afford a gaming PC and the money left over for the headset is sensible.

Aye. I tried four laptops but none were good. I needed a 8750h with at least 1070 cores, but it was costly. A GTX 1060 laptop with that spec looks cool and pairs well with HTC Vive for the same price. I could use both the laptop and PC. But the 1060 is a big turnoff; if it were a 1070, I’d just take it. Not sure what to do now.

I’m considering using money from my laptop funds to buy the Vive and then getting a less powerful laptop for the rest. I know the 2060 will be about 30% slower than the desktop version, while a 1070 would be similar on a desktop, so it makes sense. The 1060 is having trouble reaching 60 FPS in ultra 1080p on The Division from 2016, so that’s why.
