Is GPU clock speed truly limitless?
Previously I received an XFX RX 7900 XTX Magnetic Air, but during gaming the reported clock speed is 3000mhz. On the manufacturer's site it lists a maximum of around 2615mhz. When I set it to default with MSI Afterburner it still displays 3000mhz, and in Afterburner while gaming it shows 2487mhz. Is this the cause for my card being sent to warranty because it can't reach a higher clock?
Update your post with complete hardware details and operating system information. Provide the power supply specifications, including voltage, amperage, age, and condition (original, build, refurbished, used). List the disk drive specifications such as make, model, and capacity, along with their current usage. Include a list of all connected peripherals. Specify whether the network connection is wired or wireless.
It seems there might be an issue with the software interpreting the clock speed, or perhaps you've won a chance to receive a gold sample that enhances performance. If you notice no issues and the temperature remains manageable, I don't see any problems. You could try undervolting to reduce heat output or adjust the power settings in the drivers to prevent excessive boosting. If this isn't due to a bug, I recall a situation where system information incorrectly displayed my processor as running at 11GHz, which was clearly incorrect.
The temperature is fine but one thing that question me if the clock speed is 3000 mhz during gameplay but in the xfx website the gameclock is up to 2615 so it means it beyond measure during gameplay will it break and is it the reason my card go to warranty?now i cant play games because my gpu is dead and still need to wait for 4 weeks.
Hey there,
This is down to the boosting algorithm that modern GPUs use. If the thermal conditions allow (temp/voltage) then modern GPUs can often boost far past their standard clocks.
My own GPU, the 4070 Super, has standard clocks of 2530mhz, and a boost speed of 2550mhz. However, it has never run below 2805mhz and often sits around 2820mhz depending on the game. So if there's enough thermal headroom the GPU will clock itself as high as possible.
Here's an interesting thread:

Seems you are not alone.
Unless you are getting some artefacts in game, and or the temps are off the charts, then it's fine to run it as is.
So - is it no longer alive? Or are we discussing a possible future scenario?
