I noticed the cost variation between a Blu-ray copy and the digital edition while searching for a PC upgrade. I wondered if there are any trade-offs involved.

Usually PC games come without a physical disc and only include a download code. I’d never purchase a game this way again, mainly due to the unnecessary waste. Plus, there are frequent discounts on Steam, Origin, Uplay, Humble Bundle, etc., making it likely you’ll find a better price.

Yes, there are trade-offs. Specifically, managing those bothersome physical discs! I definitely dislike all physical formats and will never let an optical drive end up in my setup.

I appreciate the disks, but I see why it isn't a good deal. Thanks.

In addition to what was mentioned, it's worth mentioning that there are no PC games available on Blu-ray. Blu-rays are costly and most people don't own a compatible drive. If you locate a game with actual data on the disc, it would be roughly equivalent to ten DVDs, which remains more affordable than a single Blu-ray.

Similar to other storage options, 4G and broadband eliminated the need for physical discs. The only reason to retain a disc would be for collectors. From a marketing perspective, keeping a physical disc in the store would be a direct challenge to console-based games.

I haven't relied on physical formats for about a decade. Uploading tends to be quicker than setting up from a hard drive most of the time.

I have high-speed internet, which gives me about 100MB/s from services like Steam. I haven’t used CDs or DVDs in a while, but I think they can’t compete with those speeds.

I received a solid 600/600mbit connection. It seems we're stuck at this speed despite the claims. The backend should handle it, and it's right next to the main line.
