I enjoy Quake Champions from games that have been around for over two decades. It's the top FPS multiplayer experience I've found. Everyone can give it a try—it's free on Steam. I've invested in it so I can create a custom server for 1v1 matches. The free version is clearly marked out.

Most users are currently using the Doom II wad. COD:Zombies seems to be a Doom co-op version. The modern engines let you use mouse controls, jump, and crouch more easily, which enhances the overall experience. Some servers disable jump, crouch, and mouse look. Doom has a Quake arena mod wad pk3, so I don’t need to install Steam. Doom Explorer can download most of the necessary files for joining servers, though not all. If it fails, it might be due to the server. There’s also a Mega Man-themed wad. If it runs smoothly, it’s likely the issue is with the server. Games today can give a misleading sense of success with good textures. Doom reminds us that things can quickly go wrong and you might die. Just hope the server allows you to respawn.

Occasionally I revisit the old Doom titles with Gzdoom. I've always enjoyed the original Doom games.

I'm having issues with my tablet but I don't have a dial-up modem, the old phone handset, and my 90s school friends.

I have Brutal Doom on some of my flash drives. It's enjoyable to start and get things going.

We should consider adding more doom servers. As CPUs grow with more cores, and these files remain tiny compared to today’s games, I question how many could run simultaneously with a fast internet connection.
