I’m planning a hacktosh to demonstrate my skills and show that purchasing a Mac Pro in 2017 was a mistake. I enjoy hacking, debugging, and development. Should I choose Ryzen for its strong video editing performance or wait for the X299 to become compatible with Hackintosh? If I opt for Ryzen, why would I tolerate the challenges of getting it to work? Are there other factors I should think about?

Building a Ryzen Hackintosh is feasible, though it demands greater time and upkeep compared to an Intel system.

You can install Mac Pro models from the 2010s or 2012s and upgrade them with a system featuring two 6-core processors, 64 GB of memory, four HDDs or SSDs, a PCIe SSD, and two GPUs for a powerful setup.

I doubt it would function properly due to the varying architectures.

I believe a hackintosh isn't a good idea overall, and adding Ryzen would only add more complexity.

X86 refers to the architecture used in many personal computers. It’s simply about choosing a machine, and installing your desired operating system on it means you’re acknowledging its value.

This situation doesn't make sense. Attempting to modify macOS on unsupported devices is risky, often causes driver conflicts, requires disabling security features, and lacks access to current updates—definitely not a worthwhile approach.

Reminder only—while we can talk about OS topics, fixing issues and setting up hardware isn’t permitted here.

The authenticity of a hackintosh comes alive. I attempted it, got some results, but gave up on the extra work—just responding to the questioner. Edited September 18, 2017 by SansVarnic
