Is a higher frame rate beneficial in online gaming?
I transitioned from a low FPS PC to one with better performance. Initially, I played World of Tanks at 40 FPS on a laptop for about 6000 battles, but my stats didn’t improve much, especially in hit ratio. Once I upgraded my system to handle WoT smoothly, my performance noticeably increased, as more shots connected effectively to targets.
I found aiming became smoother and I could deliver guided shots to moving targets successfully. At 40 FPS, I struggled to connect many shots. Also, a stable internet connection with low ping (<10ms) was crucial for instant action delivery and less lag.
In my perspective, position of view and ping are more important than response time, especially in games with random elements. For casual players, response time isn’t as critical.
It depends on a few factors. If you claim to run over 100 frames per second, but your monitor only supports 60Hz or lower, the increase in frames won't make much of a difference. After upgrading from a 60Hz to a 144Hz monitor, I noticed a noticeable change, especially in games, though it might just be a placebo effect.
When discussing online shooter games, these elements influence your performance.
- FPS: Absolutely, a higher frame rate improves speed, especially for competitive players.
- Latency: Yes, it stops unregistered hits and reduces delays.
- Input lag: Most gaming monitors, mice, and keyboards offer low input lag; this is likely less critical than the others.
- High refresh rate: Provides clearer visuals with less blur, enhancing your experience in fast-paced games.
A straightforward way to evaluate high refresh rates and low input lag is through:

Test 10 times, clicking as quickly as possible in two different configurations: 60Hz, standard mouse versus 100/144/240Hz gaming monitor with a gaming mouse.
In my experience, I was faster with the gaming PC—one from my office and one from my gaming PC.
Lol, I reacted 50ms quicker on the gaming PC.
I have a 144Hz monitor and I won't go back. Everything looks so clear and nice. I don't like the curved screens though. Try before you buy.
Lag will ruin a game for me. Lag is the biggest problem. You can't do much about that. The best connection I've ever had was in a commercial area on a Sunday. I would have been the only one using the internet there.
