Is a gigabit connection just limited to 100 megabits?
Is a gigabit connection just limited to 100 megabits?
I have a Windows 10 PC that connects to a Linksys EA9300 router using a Realtek 2.5Gbe port. Even though the router shows gigabit speeds, my computer only gets 100Mbps through it. However, I can get full internet speed (almost 500Mbit) when using WiFi. I tried three different cables, both Cat5e and Cat6, but nothing helped. When I changed speed and duplex settings to Gigabit on the Windows adapter, the connection still shows only 100/100 Mbit. This is making me confused because I am sure there must be a simple mistake I missed. Please help if you can explain this. By the way, this is just an old router upgrade from a 100Mbit model on a slower internet connection. Just in case that explains things. Thank you very much! Scooter Update When I connected the cable from my router (which was confirmed to get gigabit through it by other devices) straight into the computer, there was still no change in speed detection. At least I figured out that the router and cables are not the problem this time.
Hey, I have a few questions. First, have you updated your motherboard drivers? Specifically, did you update the LAN drivers? Second, I've had similar problems before. Please unplug the power from your router and wait 5 minutes, then plug it back in and wait for it to sync all its connections. Third, I really doubt this one but check the BIOS settings and see if there is a setting for that 2.5GB port and look for any limiters that aren't controlled by Windows. Fourth, go into the router settings using the IP address, like 10.0.0.1 or something similar. Check the manual carefully. Look at all the settings to see if anything is restricting your data cap, too. Try finding a Firmware update in the settings as well. Fifth, if nothing works then I suggest replacing the router or buying one of your own so you don't have to pay monthly service rental fees just because you got it from an ISP.
