Is a complete upgrade planned, or are some current parts being replaced?
Hi everyone,
I’m really new to PCs and their components, so I’m looking for some guidance.
About five years ago I built my rig and it’s starting to have more issues. I don’t play much heavy gaming, but even games like TW Warhammer 3 and ARMA Reforger are beginning to slow down a bit.
Right now I have:
- Motherboard: B450 Tomahowk Max
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-core, 3600Mhz
- GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700
- RAM: 16GB (still trying to find the exact model)
- Operating system: Windows 11 Pro
- Monitors: Xiaomi Mi curved 34" and MSI MP2412
What are my top suggestions for giving this system a fresh start? I just want something that lets me play the games I mentioned without needing a full overhaul. I’ve considered:
- reinstalling Windows
- upgrading parts (and which ones?)
- rebuilding everything from scratch
Looking forward to your ideas!
Thanks,
Yarnev
Hi!
I'm in Australia and parts are likely from various online shops. The budget should be around $2000 (about $1500 USD), which means I can build something lasting many years, but if I can delay that cost by upgrading what I already have, it would be the better choice.
The primary purpose of the computer is for gaming, where a 5700/5800 X3D will significantly enhance frame rate and fluidity. Additionally, upgrading the graphics card is necessary to accommodate a larger monitor.
I’m from the USA, so keep that in mind, but a 5700x3d would cost around $200. I’d think about upgrading the GPU to at least a 7800xt or better. Those cards are available for about $450, plus or minus. As someone else mentioned, replacing the PSU would also be a good idea.

Hey everyone!
I decided to make the following changes:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D
- GPU: Radeon 7800 XT
- 32 GB DDR4 3600Mhz RAM
The power supply is a bit below expectations right now (Corsair CX 650W). I’ll keep monitoring it, and if I see it drawing more than 80%-85% of that power, I’ll upgrade to a 750W 80+ gold PSU.
Another choice for PC case gear is an Australian retailer, and I purchase a lot of my items from them! Maybe a new PSU would be a Corsair 850W for this build! It pushes you past 1500 watts, but I personally would opt for an AM5 over AM4 at this stage. Yes, it goes above 1500 watts, but for that extra bit you can still upgrade in a few years, and the upcoming Zen 5 and rumored Zen 6 will still run on the AM5 platform! It’s a bit silly to mess with AM4 right now. I don’t disagree with the 5700X3D or the 5800X3D (which I’ve owned and they’re great CPUs), but they’re quite old and are basically out now—your options are limited to upgrading only to the 5700X3D or 5800X3D if you stick with AM4. That’s why I suggest going for the AM5 platform!
