It seems only because Nvidia has been increasing prices and offering less value while AMD takes advantage of its pricing strategy. Over the past two generations, the price jumps have been more than double in many cases. Although there are various factors at play, the main issue is that costs have risen and performance has declined. Personally, I don’t follow their tactics and unless there are serious hardware issues, I won’t replace anything until there’s at least a 75% improvement in performance or a significant price drop. The 9070 XT near its MSRP offers the best value this generation, followed closely by the 5070 Ti, though neither meets that threshold for me.
I have an RTX 5070 Ti. If you play CS2, let me know if you need a hint. In deathmatch you usually get around 250-320 FPS at the max 1440p setting without FSRS. But in casual play it might drop to 100 FPS due to the smoke effect, which is really disappointing. If you upgrade to RTX 5080 and play casual, it will still drop to 100 FPS occasionally, though it’s quite rare. With a 5090/4090 GPU, it will never drop to 100 FPS in casual play.

I recommend skipping the upgrade at this moment. Reduce certain settings that boost VRAM consumption, and opt for DLSS in performance or ultra performance modes to boost FPS while slightly lowering VRAM usage at 1440p. When playing competitive online games, further adjustments could help achieve higher FPS with a more affordable CPU upgrade, depending on your current hardware. The latest DLSS 4.5 performs well at 1440p and higher resolutions, offering better results than previous presets when using performance or ultra performance settings on RTX 20/30 series cards. For ray tracing, we still await Nvidia’s support for ray reconstruction in DLSS 4.5 at lower quality levels, as it helps mitigate noise from lower rendering resolutions. As discussed before, the upgrade cost makes sense only if you truly need extra VRAM and can recoup it by selling your RTX 3080. You should weigh the benefits against the current prices, which are returning to launch levels for the RTX 50 series. Prices will likely rise further in the coming months and possibly into 2027, but don’t rush to buy just because of FOMO—consider your needs before making a decision.
