I currently own a 3080 10gb graphics card in my system. I think it's time to consider an upgrade given the advancements in technology and new features available now. I prefer staying with Nvidia because it offers the benefits I get from games like Cyberpunk and Oblivion Remastered.
I’m wondering if a 16GB RTX 5070 Ti would be sufficient for my needs. I play at 1440p, mostly on AAA games, but also enjoy esports titles such as Overwatch 2 and CS2. I’m not planning to invest heavily in keeping up with the 80 series cards since my gaming habits have changed and I now have a child, so I’d prefer to allocate funds elsewhere.

The RTX 5070 TI would represent a significant upgrade. Whether it's sufficient depends on whether you're comfortable with the current high prices. A time when prices hadn't risen by $100, I would have agreed, but now I think it's worth considering. If you're able to sell the 3080, it could help reduce the expense of the new graphics card.
RTX 5070 ti isn't a major jump, only about 50% more frames.
For noticeable performance gains, aim for at least double the FPS — reaching 4090/5090 levels.
Also, the RTX 5060 ti is a step down from the RTX 3080.
However, it could improve texture quality with 16GB of VRAM.
I see, everything hinges on my choice and my budget. I wasn't aware how close things were. While I'd prefer the latest tech, I'm not too fond of frame generation and the high costs of what's barely an upgrade over what I currently have. Thanks for your thoughts and the graph!
I noticed something about that. Right now, not taking recent price increases into account, the 5070 seems to be the most sensible upgrade at the moment. And even with the MSRP, the 5080 and higher models offer little benefit in terms of value for money. At least at 1440p. However, I would consider buying the new card and then selling the 3080 to recoup some of the cost.
2x th fps seems a bit excessive though isn't it? That means you would be waiting like 3-4 generations before buying a new card. Realistically speaking, that's not out of the ordinary. Just that games seem to be moving faster than that. To me at least. Maybe I'm wrong. But yes, I understand what you're getting at. It's not really worth it right now. And definitely not worth going to a 60 series card from my 3080 from multiple people's inputs. Thank you!

you are running into a vram limit, especially at 1440p to 4k. Getting a 50-70% uplift is not terrible at $750, but pushing it at $830-900. Only worth it if they're able to sell the 3080 to offset the cost.

Waiting for a 2x increase in performance means either getting a RTX 5080, 4090, or 5090 or waiting for RTX 60 series for a 6080. None of those options are practical, and I'd say either get a 5070 TI upgrade now and not have to worry about the 60 series being in short supply and still overpriced, or wait for the 60 series and get a 6070 or better for probably the same cost and performance as now for a 5070 TI.
Also, I'm not too sure on how old that 1440p relative performance data is for the RTX 4080 vs 5070 TI in that techpowerup chart, but last I remember, the 5070 TI and 4080 were pretty much within +/- 2-3% of each other.
As discussed, the improvements wouldn't be very substantial compared to the cost.
2D performance would roughly rise by 25%.
3D (Gaming) performance would increase by about 29%.
These figures are just averages, and the actual results could vary based on the game and your settings.
For the price, it doesn't seem worthwhile to expect more than a 30% boost in performance.
However, this decision is yours, and you might be able to recoup some expenses by selling the 3080 later.
