In my exact words, I was referring only to the 5090. The user wants to delay until a 6090. The 9800x3d is likely to prevent a 6090 from appearing in more titles, even at 4k, if the 5090 already shows some signs of it. For the user's current configuration, a 9900x or 9800x3d will have little impact, unless they are playing something highly CPU-intensive like WoW.
You're absolutely correct that the CPU isn't a major factor, but since I rarely change my setup, I always try to stay up-to-date.
