Is 4k the norm now?
It's worth examining screen size, resolution, and sitting distance charts. RTings offers a solid option among others. Consider your age and vision when making this decision. For those over 50, 4K often doesn't provide much benefit because the difference is usually imperceptible without glasses, and it depends on how close you are to the screen. Sometimes I switch back to 1080 to remove the glasses and feel more comfortable. Even 2K is beyond my visual range. I still believe 1080 offers good value, but 2K is much more practical than it used to be. For gaming, 4K isn't a major concern for me.
At some point, there must be advantages to a 90 series or 50 series card over a 1080ti, yes? Ram, dlss, rna4 etc.
Meh. Once you reach 1080p it doesn't matter.
4K stands out when you require more screen space or better text clarity.
Currently, with the newest titles running at maximum settings:
7800XT/7900 GRE/6900 XT/RX 9070
RTX 4070, RTX 4070 Super, RTX 5070
1440p at 240hz requires powerful hardware such as the 5070 Ti/5080/4090, 7900XT / XTX, and 9070 XT
At 1440p at 60hz, you can get by with less powerful options like the 3060 Ti / 4060 Ti, 7700XT, and RX 6800 with lower game configurations.
These suggestions apply mainly to recent releases. For games from a few years prior, review older sources and compare common titles between past and present reviews. Or simply assess the difference in performance between old and new cards.
