Is 1.463 volts excessive for a 4.0 overclock?
Is 1.463 volts excessive for a 4.0 overclock?
Hi, I checked my CPU from 3.3 GHz to 4.0 GHz (planning to go up to 4.2) and it was stable at 1.46 vcore now. I’m wondering if the vcore is too high and if lowering it would be safe. I saw it stable after about two hours with temperatures reaching 72 degrees.
My reason for doubting my vcore was seeing someone running at 4.2 GHz with a 1.47 vcore, which is very close to mine.
CPU details: AMD a8 7650k
Any advice would be appreciated.
(And a note about my English.)
Avoid exceeding the recommended limits; even 1.475 is risky. For better performance, additional cooling would be necessary if the current setup is already at 72°C. These older AMD processors are sensitive to heat, whereas Intel typically handles higher temperatures, usually with a TJmax near 100°C, but on these older models it's much closer to 80°C, and throttling begins around 70°C.
You should set the voltage to keep it under 1.5, as your TJ max is at 80.
