Is 1080p gaming a good investment?
Hey everyone, a few days back I went to my friend's place with my PC. We began playing games, but I noticed around 20-30 frames per second (max) compared to about 60-70 FPS on the same titles with a 720p screen. What surprised me was that there wasn't a noticeable difference at 1080p resolution. So, is it worth upgrading to 1080p and sacrificing some frames? My PC specs are Intel Core i7 950 at 4.2GHz, Hyper-212 EVO R9 360 (planned upgrade), X58 UHD3 motherboard, Antec TruePower 650W CPU, Intel SSD, Corsair 100uRAM. If your English isn't perfect, don't be a hard one :3
It's not beneficial to use higher resolutions with drop frames, particularly in fast-paced games. This could significantly impact your performance. If you have a 720p monitor, it's probably unnecessary unless your graphics card supports 1080p. Ultimately, this depends on personal preference.
1080p is a straightforward resolution to use these days, so there’s no real incentive not to try it if your system can handle it… but definitely no need to push 20–30 frames per second at any setting when you can achieve better performance at a lower frame rate. Switching from the R7 360 would make it much easier to run 1080p games with something like an RX 480 4GB.
