Iranian PC performance query (Intel Core i7 8700K)
Jello! Your i7-8700k CPU is currently configured at 47 with every other setting set to auto. Previously, all cores ran consistently at 4.7GHz continuously, even when idle. After a recent Windows update, the CPU still maintains up to 4.7GHz across all cores, but its frequency fluctuates randomly between 800MHz and 4.7GHz on each core—similar to the stock 8700K when gaming. It appears stable so far, though I’m curious if a fresh OS install affects this behavior. All BIOS settings remain unchanged. Thanks!
I turned off the Intel Speestep, and it now consistently hits 4.7. It seems to get warmer a bit more when Speedstep is active versus when it’s off. Appreciate the feedback!
Windows update likely switched your profile from high performance to balanced, but on my machine it did the opposite (balanced to high performance). It’s normal, and speedstep is working fine—keep it on. My computer ran extremely hot for about a week, so I needed to figure out why.
It seems my power plan was set to the default (Balanced)... it ran on high performance before I reinstalled Windows. Done!
