iPhone Xr stopped working after connecting to a laptop, unable to be opened or interacted with.
The phones is pretty old (not running ios 16 tho) and has had issues like these before but never as impactful that the whole phone freezes up as quickly as the new chiller Linus got. So, here's the break down (get it?) My dad plugged his phone a few minutes ago into his laptop using a good old usb lightning cable (phone is an iPhone Xr), the cable isn't the problem, he and me have used it many times and it's worked flawlessly before charging or transferring data but as he plugged it in it prompted him if he should allow my laptop to access photo and videos, he just wanted to charge his phone so he pressed allow and it kept prompting him so then he couldn't use his phone. So then he thought to put his phone to sleep and press allow and it would work, did that and the same thing happened but now the prompt doesn't go away momentarily it just stays there when he clicks allow (pic and vid below) and he can't turn it off either (already tried that) I came over to help him a few minutes ago where i tried to pull down the control centre too but nothing on the screen but the allow and don't allow selections were able to be clicked, and even the allow and don't allow options didn't actually work (once again vid below). Btw we also tried to click the torch and camera button at the bottom of the screen but those were the same as the rest of the lock screen and did nothing Does anyone have any suggestions? Feel like we've tried most of the stuff available. Also sorry if quality is a bit bad but my phones dead and can't charge it so using laptop webcam EDIT: Forgot to say but we've also tried two different laptops (both laptops are less than 1 year old hps so that shouldn't be the problem) Untitled video - Made with Clipchamp (3).mp4 Edited April 13, 2023 by filpo
You didn't mention trying to remove the batteries or force shut down. Let me know what you're thinking.
It was actually me criticizing modern phones, especially iPhones, for not being able to perform simple tasks like replacing a battery. But after thinking for a couple of minutes: let the battery run down completely. Let it run out of power naturally. That’s essentially what I meant. (Not sure if it would work, maybe wait for other opinions)
Yes, a hard reset typically clears all data on the phone, including files and applications.
