What kind of sky hub model are you using? Are there any recent wireless gadgets such as cameras or baby monitors nearby? Do many of your neighbors have Wi-Fi signals? You might experience interference.

Sure thing.
It sounds like you're surprised by the speed drop. In your area, with limited coverage and only basic fiber, 40mbps to 11mbps is actually quite fast compared to what you might expect.

It's definitely worth reaching out to your ISP. Or at the very least, inform them that your internet speed isn't optimal.

Pause for a moment and optimize our performance. Turn off all connected devices or restart your router, then perform the speed test as soon as it boots up. You'll notice most calls about connection drops are caused by other network activities consuming bandwidth.

I understand your frustration, but please keep your comments brief so they’re easier to read. Most of what you say doesn’t really help with solving your issue. It seems like this might be a more affordable router. When it gets taxed, they often run out of buffer and performance drops significantly. If this is your ISP’s router, I’d recommend they check it out. But if it’s yours, please share the model number. At 11 Mbps, YouTube should work just fine unless you’re streaming in 4K, which makes me think the problem could be with the router itself.

Talk to Sky, voicing your frustration won’t solve anything since you’re coming off with a terrible attitude.

I’d reach out to Sky because the issue seems on their side. I used to work with them and often struggled with internet access (similar to what you’re facing). Concerning Steam download speeds: a 3.5 MB/s connection equals about 28 Mbps, which is acceptable. If it drops to 3.5 Mbps, switch your Steam server location from London to Manchester. It helped me.

I have a few queries about this situation. I was part of the troubleshooting team on a UK DSL forum, and similar problems keep happening. Are you the only one experiencing this on your network? Is anyone else in your home using the internet while you run the speed test? Would you like to enter your landline number into the site (https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/) and see the download speeds listed for Clean VSDL Range A and Impacted VDSL Range B? Have you attempted to restart the router? Do you own only a Sky Hub, or do you have another device with a BT logo? As others mentioned, it’s really annoying dealing with Sky (their reps are not great, but try to persevere), you should contact them and request they perform tests from their side. I understand people agree this is likely router-related, though other factors might be involved.
