When the internet was just starting out, download speeds were around 35 to 40 Mbps. The current speeds are dropping to about 11 Mbps, which is a significant drop. This isn't a joke—it's happening now or last week. I've tried all possible Wi-Fi channels and even reset the router. Speed tests on my PC and phone show the same slowdown. It seems like this supplier might be intentionally limiting speeds over time. After a month, it’s clear something is being done to slow things down again. Many people are experiencing similar issues, so it’s likely not just a one-time thing.

Have you considered using a wired link? It might be your internet service provider, which could explain the slowdowns they report.

Are you connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet? If Wi-Fi, how close is your computer to the router? Interference and distance can reduce your internet speed. I once had 109Mbps when the PC was right next to the router, but now it's on the floor above and only provides 40Mbps.

Stay calm. Are you checking what you're testing? 11Mbps is about the speed of a typical home Wi-Fi link, but that doesn't mean your internet is actually that fast. Your router has two connections—one to the internet and another to your device. Try visiting www.speedtest.net and running the test; it will check how fast your connection is to the internet.

I rely on WiFi but before we switch to wired... as I mentioned, when we first got it for a month it reached around 40mbps on speedtest.net only in the past weeks. It’s now consistently showing 11mbps download, and it’s also dropped to that level on my phone. That’s not impressive at all—even my old 20mbps connection stayed strong without dropping. Why has it stopped reaching 35mbps? It doesn’t make sense. I can’t use cable either. Maybe it’s better for another purpose and no one will let me damage the ceiling or anything, but it should normally be around 30mbps. Unless I should invest in a WiFi booster that plugs into the wall?

Are you familiar with the speed test you took that achieved 40Mbps? Internet performance improves during off-peak hours because of reduced network traffic. Additionally, which internet service provider are you connected with? Some rely on ADSL, which may result in inconsistent speeds.

I managed it during the day, but since I received the new box it’s been stable—around 40mbps or 35 Mbps most of the time. But this week it’s really slow; I can’t stream YouTube anymore. I’m confused because it’s supposed to be 11 Mbps in the UK, and I have sky fibre, which I think is just a faster version of regular broadband we usually pay for—around 40 Mbps. It seems like it was advertised as that when we set it up, but now it’s dropping to 11 Mbps.

I previously had Sky fibre. It's essentially an upgraded broadband service. The network might be handling heavy traffic, which can reduce your internet speed noticeably. Additionally, during the holiday season or New Year period, more users online can cause delays, explaining the sudden drop in connectivity.
