Internet speeds offered by BT.
For quite some time—possibly 7 to 9 years—the internet my mum was paying for (around 53£, though fiber is involved)—has been very poor. The service claims speeds should be at least 60mbps and around 70mbps on average, but that’s nowhere near reality. We usually see between 2mbps and 14mbps, with 14 being the highest I’ve ever recorded, and about 7 to 9 being typical. What both speed tests and other sites say is 70mbps, yet we’re consistently getting much lower. I’m confused about what’s wrong and really frustrated that my mum has to pay this much, especially since we’re not receiving the service she pays for. If anyone can help fix this, I’d really appreciate it. I’m young, not an adult, and I don’t pay for the internet myself—just old enough to use YouTube and stuff. I can manage Hub Manager and most tasks, except changing the plan. Thanks for reading! (No one is using the internet while downloading things, by the way.)
Based on the images you shared, it seems the confusion arises from unit differences. The speed test reports in megabits per second, while the download speeds are listed in megabytes per second. Remember, each bit equals 8 bits per byte, so a 8.8MB/s rate translates to approximately 70.4Mbps.
